Gas cooling improvement
A Japanese waste incineration plant had been using spillback nozzles for gas cooling. However, in recent years, the temperature of the exhaust gases had risen due to the increasing heat generated during incineration. Consequently, heat transferred from the nozzle tips exposed to the high-temperature gases to the nozzle piping was causing damage. While the nozzle sections could be replaced periodically, frequent replacement of the nozzle piping entailed significant labour and cost.

SPB is especially suitable for gas cooling where the flow rate or gas temperature varies a lot.
The solution
Ikeuchi Japan proposed a unit design where the nozzle section and sleeve are welded together as a single unit, allowing both to be replaced simultaneously. This structure eliminates the gap between the nozzle and sleeve, further enhancing the protective performance of the nozzle piping.
The result
The nozzle section and sleeve no longer require separate management, significantly improving maintainability. This has been very well received on site, with requests for similar specifications emerging in other projects.
The nozzle piping is now securely protected, enabling stable operation to continue at this waste incineration facility.
