Premier Print Group is an American company which offers high performance printing services with everything from design to promotional printing and package printing. The company was established in 2007 and is located in Champaign, a couple hours south of Chicago.

The problems the customer was facing
In 2019, Premiere Print Group were trying to track down a perfector register bounce and dropping sheets at high speed. They went through everything mechanically. Through every air setting etc. However, they couldn’t fix the issue. In the end they figured out that the problems were all related to static electricity. After running sheets without the HUV dryer on, they were able to run at full speed without any misregister in the perfector.
Premier print group only had around 20% humidity in the pressroom, while the recommended setting is at least 44%. Due to this issue, they were only able to run at speeds of 10,500 on most stocks and productivity was too low.
System used for this application
AKIMist® “E” Dry Fog Humidifier
Our AKIMist®“E” spreads a Dry Fog that humidifies indoor environments without wetting due to its tiny droplet size around 7.5µm. This makes it ideal for printing facilities where expensive equipment is at risk.
The solution
Since the target area was 20,000 m3, IKEUCHI suggested “Spot humidification” with AKIMist®. Considering the big area size and necessary big spray amount for a whole area, they could save on the initial cost investment and running cost.
Premier print group ended up installing 4 AKIMist units for spot humidification including a RO water filter, automatic humidity controller and a sensor. Since the system is quite simple, Premier prepared piping and tubing and installed it by themselves.
The result
The result was a significant decrease in static electricity which led to an increase in productivity. Overall, Premier Print Group were very satisfied with the result. They found the maintenance very easy and simple. They were also pleased to see that the “dry fog” never caused wetting, dripping or puddles on the floor.
