Proper yarn storage requires understanding how different materials react to environmental factors like moisture, heat, fungus, and mildew.
To preserve textile yarn effectively, follow these guidelines:
Temperature: Maintain room temperature between 20–22°C. Lower temperatures can dry out and weaken yarn, while higher heat and humidity can cause expansion, mold, and deterioration.
Humidity: Use air conditioning or humidifiers to keep relative humidity between 50–70%, based on the material type.
Light: Store yarn in a dark, enclosed space away from direct sunlight to prevent discoloration and oxidation.
Cotton yarn: Requires pre-treatment, as it absorbs moisture easily and is vulnerable to mold.

Besides from increasing the strenght, color and quality of the yarn, the correct humidty level will also ensure that the yarn preserves its moist and weight. AKIMist® humidification provides full control of the humidity level in a textile storage room. By controlling the humidity level, issues such as static electricity can be prevented and dust can be suppressed. AKIMist sprays a non-wetting “dry fog” with a droplet diameter of less than 7.5µm and uses 80% less energy than conventional humidification solutions.
