Tissue cultivation and humidity
Humidity control is of utmost importance in tissue cultivation as a high humidity level enhances the growth of the tissue and prevents water loss and desiccation. In addition, tissue culture requires a sterile and controlled environment in order to prevent diseases from spreading to the entire batch..
Stage 1: Vitro stage
At this starting stage, the humidity level should be very high – between 90-99%. Since the young plantlets don’t have any protective layers yet, such as cuticles and a functioning stomata, they can easily lose water. The high level of humidity will help them to stay moist as well as protect against diseases.
Stage 2: Multiplication
During the multiplication stage, the seedlings are relocated to a fresh culture medium where they can multiply into more seedlings. At this stage, the seedlings are still fragile and need a high level of humidity around 90%.
Stage 3: Rooting stage
When seedlings have grown around 2-4 cm they are ready for the rooting stage. During the rooting stage the seedlings are again transferred to a new medium containing auxin. During this stage, the humidity level should still be high at around 85-90%, but can slowly start the acclimatization process.
Stage 4: Acclimatization
During the acclimatization period, the relative humidity level should be lowered slowly. Over a period of 4-8 weeks, the relatove humidity should gradually be lowered from the 90-99% to 60-70%. The acclimatization process is important for the seedlings in order to help them adapt to normal greenhouse conditions and to support them in developing strong cuticles and functional stomata.
AKIMist® Dry Fog humidification for tissue cultivation
AKIMist® is a Japanese invention which can produce droplets so tiny as around 7.5 µm due to its unique impingement nozzle. Due to an automatic sensor system, the humidity level can easily be set for the level fitting for the current growing stage of the strawberry plants. In addition, AKIMist is so compact (5 inch) that it can easily fit in a tight growing room, or a room with a low ceiling construction.
AKIMist® is non-wetting due to its tiny droplet size around 7.5 µm.
AKIMist® has an 80% lower cost-ratio than conventional humidification systems.
No condensation on seedlings due to the tiny droplet size when located at least 3 meter from the object.
AKIMist® “E” Dry Fog Humidifier
Our AKIMist®“E” spreads a Dry Fog that humidifies indoor environments without wetting due to its tiny droplet size around 7.5 µm
How does AKIMist work?
The AKIMist® technology is built around an atomizing unit which combines water, compressed air and ultrasonic waves. Two separate orifices spray out atomized droplets which collide in the center. Simultaneously they generate ultrasonic waves to further atomize the droplets and homogenize their size into around 7.5 µm – dry fog.

Installation and maintenance
AKIMist requires very little maintenance compared to other humidification equipment. In addition, it is very easy to maintain as it is installed within the factory and hanging from the ceiling or wall.
AKIMist is easy to install and can be fitted into any current HVAC design. AKIMist can be installed with a wall or ceiling fitting or
even as a portable option.
AKIMist is very compact. Like the size of a 5 inch smartphone. This makes it easy to fit into tight factory spaces.
