As the city’s sole dairy farmer, Maruo dairy farm rears 120 dairy cows. By focusing on three key areas—‘raising cattle in comfortable barns’, ‘growing grass to ensure the cows are well-fed’ and ‘contributing to the local community through the proper disposal of manure’—the company practises ‘dairy farming closely linked to the local community’. In recognition of its stable dairy management and harmonious coexistence with the local community, it was awarded the Honourable Mention at the National Agricultural Competition in 2012.

The problems the customer was facing
The ideal for dairy farmers is to achieve consistent conception every month and maintain a steady milk yield throughout the year. However, heat stress often leads to loss of appetite and reduced stamina, disrupting the oestrus cycle and causing delays in conception relative to the natural timing. This, in turn, upsets the milk yield balance for the following year.
System used for this application
KBN Fine Hydraulic Atomization
Our KBN nozzles have the finest atomization amongst our hydralic spray nozzles. The system produces ultra-fine water droplets of approximately 35 μm, creating a cooling effect without noticeably wetting the animals. This also prevents any surrounding hay or feed from getting wet or floors from getting slippery. In addition, the water amount used will be very low, which can allow the cooling system to be on for several hours at a time.
The solution
After installation. Maruo farm could confirm that the ambient temperature was reduced by 6 °C without wetting the cows, the bedding or the surrounding equipment.
The Result
The cooling system has made a significant contribution to reducing heat stress in the cattle.
