Drum coating
Drum coating is an effective way to apply a layer to a bundle of items inside a rotating drum. The choice of spray nozzle depends on the application and type of liquid being sprayed. For thin layers, pneumatic spray nozzles would be the recommended choice and for thicker layers we would recommend something from our hydraulic spray nozzle line-up.
Different types of drum coating
1. Solution coating
Solution coating is commonly used in pharmaceutical processes where pills are coated with a dissolved coating material. The material is sprayed while the drum rotates. For this type of thin coating we recommend our pneumatic spray nozzles.
2. Suspension coating
Suspension coating refers to the process of adding a solid powder into the spraying stream and spraying a thin film on top of something. As this involves the risk of clogging, we recommend using a pneumatic spray nozzle with a wider orifice.
3. Binder coating
Binder coating refers to the process of spraying a binder solution in a drum. The binder coating will add a tiny wetting layer acting as glue to hold pigments together and lock the coating firmly onto a surface as it dries. For this application, we recommend our fine fog hydraulic spray nozzles.

Our fine fog pneumatic spray nozzles, like BIM, are ideal for solution coating due to their tiny droplet size. This ensures a thin and uniform layer.
Clog-resistant pneumatic nozzles
Our clog-resistant pneumatic spray nozzles have a wider orifice and are ideal for suspension coating.
Hydraulic fine fog spray nozzles for binder coating
Our semi-dry fine fog hydraulic nozzles, like KB, are recommended for binder drum coating applications. Due to the often higher viscosity of binder coating, a hydraulic spray nozzle will ensure that it does not clog.
