How does a fog curtain work?

A fog curtain consists of an extremely fine mist of water droplets. The droplets need to be small enough to bind with the ammonia particles in the air. When these tiny water droplets are dispersed into the livestock stable, they attract and bind to airborne ammonia particles. As the water droplets come into contact with the ammonia, they will trap it and bring it down to the floor. From here it can be washed away and prevent getting dispersed into the air.

Dust suppression with fog curtain

Livestock buildings commonly contain a lot of dust due to animal feed and skin cells detached from the animal bodies etc. Ammonia and other gasses can easily be absorbed by dust particles which can carry NH₃ for a long time and distance. With a fog curtain, dust particles can be captured as well, which ensures that as much ammonia as possible is contained. In addition, dust poses a health hazard to both animals and humans so it will lead to a better living environment when it is suppressed.

Odor control

A fog curtain can also help to reduce bad odor from the livestock building.  By utilizing a chemical agent, the chemicals can react with odor molecules, altering their chemical composition and reduce their smell. Ultra-fine fog provides a more effective odor control while using fewer chemicals.

Fog curtain ammonia management with AKIMist® dry fog

AKIMist® is a Japanese invention which is known for its tiny droplet size. The droplet size is around 7.5µm, which means that they can easily capture ammonia particles and dust particles without wetting the surroudings and the livestock.
