Urban City Cooling solutions

Urban cooling

In recent years we have continously beaten new records for summer temperatures in and outside of Europe. Globally, the summer of 2023 was by far the warmest since records began in 1940. Cities are particularly affected by the extremes, leading to the so-called “Urban Heat Island Phenomenon”. About 3/4 of Europe’s population lives in urban areas, a proportion that is expected to increase in the coming decades. Extreme heat can bring a range of health problems; the effects are particularly dangerous for vulnerable elderly populations.

There are several solutions available to cool down urban areas and make the city more habitable and safe during heatwaves.

Green areas

Trees by no doubt provide the best protection against high temperatures. It has been proven that a neighbourhood with trees will reduce temperatures by up to 10-12 degrees on a warm day. Additionally, green areas increase the living quality of a city and help to mitigate pollution.

Evaporative cooling

Outside green areas, evaporative cooling can be a great substitution. A semi-dry fog system can cool down urban areas by 3-5 degrees, while the cooling effect felt by pedestriants is even greater. Due to the semi-dry fog, the droplet size is so small that it cools people and animals down without wetting, preventing heatstroke and other illnesses. The system is sustainable and cost efficient with a minimum use of water and electricity.

KB spray cooling nozzle system

  • The KB spray nozzle is an ultra-small capacity spray nozzle with the finest atomization among hydraulic nozzles
  • Mean droplet diameter: 45 – 210 μm
  • The whirl chamber is formed by a ceramic orifice and closer, which provides excellent wear resistance
  • Spray angle: 60 – 80°
  • The great advantages of nozzles made of advanced ceramic are their high resistance to corrosion, to certain chemical, to high temperature, to abrasion, and its enhanced toughness.

KBN spray nozzle cooling system

  • The KBN spray nozzle is an ultra-small capacity hollow cone spray nozzle with the finest atomization among hydraulic nozzles.
  • Capable of generating extremely fine spray:  Mean droplet diameter is 35 – 60 μm
  • Minimal clogging with free passage diameter 1.3 – 2.6 times bigger than that of conventional nozzles.
  • Spray angle: 80°
  • The whirl chamber is formed by a ceramic orifice and closer, which provides excellent wear resistance.
  • The great advantages of nozzles made of advanced ceramic are their high resistance to corrosion, to certain chemical, to high temperature, to abrasion, and its enhanced toughness.
